Reflexology uses massage and specific pressure techniques over the feet, lower leg or hands to bring about positive change in another part of the body.
As well as deeply relaxing, the aim is to restore and maintain balance within the body and to encourage the body’s natural healing process.
Reflexology is a non-intrusive therapy suitable for people of all ages from babies to those receiving end of life care.
A course of treatments is recommended in the first instance in order to have the most beneficial results, with the aim to receive ‘maintenance’ treatments once your health has improved.
RLD is a new reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. This unique treatment has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc(Hons) whom I have been lucky enough to be trained by and we studied together at the same university. Traditional lymphatic drainage massage is used to treat conditions such as lymphoedema (often developed following treatment for breast cancer). Using these principals the reflexology treatment is showing very positive effects in reducing the often debilitating effects of lymphoedema such as reduction in arm swelling, less pain and discomfort, increase in strength and mobility.
There are many other conditions that may benefit from the technique for example:
"Felt very relaxed during treatments and gradually learnt through sessions more about how reflexology works. Have definitely felt benefits although as explained, there is usually a period of feeling worse before feeling better"
